Valentine's Day Gift Guide
When it comes to Valentine's Day, all you need is love—though amazing presents can't hurt, either. Here are a few not-so-traditional, but just as thoughtful, ideas that will shake up that gift-giving list for your special someone...even if that someone is you.
Handheld with Heart
In a world gone mobile, a Web-enabled handheld device—like the Galaxy Note® 4 or the Galaxy Tab® S—can be a sweetheart of a gift. Smartphones and tablets are essentially miniature computers, so either will wow that special person. It's also the kind of gift you know will be used. For a more personalized touch, load the gadget up with content, like a silly photo for the wallpaper or a favorite MP3 as a ring tone.
The new Samsung Gear S™ makes for a polished and practical gift, especially if the recipient is a fitness nut. Packing plenty of tech punch, this network-connected wearable makes and answers phone calls—even when your phone isn't around—plus it integrates with a variety of apps, fetches email, streams music and sends text messages. After all, who said all wearable gifts have to be shiny?
For a no-fuss gift option that's sure to set the mood, opt for a wireless speaker like Samsung's Level Box, which streams audio from any Bluetooth device—like a smartphone or tablet. For a little more oomph, opt for the Samsung Shape™ Wireless Audio Speaker, a wireless audio system that works just as well as a single speaker as for a whole-home multi-room setup. You can even control any of the speakers from your smartphone or tablet—because yes, there's an app for that.
Accessories make the outfit, whether it's in a fashion sense or a technological one. Dress up your sweetheart's smartphone or tablet with one of Samsung's protective cases. Ditch the drain with a spare charger or an extra battery. Give the gift of extra storage space with a memory card. Sure, it's not the most romantic gift in the world, but it's the gift that keeps on giving...regardless of whether the recipient is tech-savvy or not.
For the ultimate in high-tech gift-giving, Samsung's UHD 4K TVs take the cake. They make TV watching a fully immersive experience, providing the viewer with a phenomenally life-like picture that displays four times the resolution of regular HD and up-scales standard content to new levels. A slew of native apps—like Facebook, Netflix and Pandora—plus built-in wireless streaming, Bluetooth and mobile app integration take the TV from a passive experience to a highly interactive, rich multimedia powerhouse.
It's a Wrap
For an extra special touch, think outside the (gift) box when it comes to wrapping your Valentine's present. This book hideaway, for example, serves as a camouflage and makes for a fun and unexpected presentation to your sweetheart:
Step One: Find a book that is slightly larger than the gift. Old dictionaries, text books and encyclopedias make good choices, and are often available cheap at thrift stores or garage sales.
Step Two: Open the front cover and place the gift on top of the first page. Use a pencil to trace around the package.
Step Three: With a craft razor and a straight-edge ruler, cut along the traced line. Continue making slices around the hole until you've cut it at a depth that will allow you to place the gift within and close the cover of the book without any noticeable gaps.
Step Four: Lift the front cover, hold the remaining pages together and brush the edges with glue. Allow to dry.
Step Five: Insert the gift into the hole and close the cover. Wrap the book with wrapping paper or place it in a gift bag.
