Outside the Box: Smartphone Wallet

Outside the Box, Part 4

Does it ever seem like important personal information is just out of reach? Today on "Outside the Box" we show you how to turn your smartphone or tablet into a virtual filing cabinet so you always have the info you need right at your fingertips. Whether you're at your desk, out running errands, stuck on the phone, or going through some snail mail, sometimes you need detailed personal information in a pinch. Rather than running to the car to get your VIN number or digging out old checkbooks for your routing code, you can save a lot of time by having a picture of these documents in your personal gallery on your smartphone or tablet. With your smartphone, you can use any number of apps or your on-board camera to scan, photograph and store your driver's license, registration info, license plate number, and even your credit card info. The sky's the limit. You just want to make sure your phone is secure and locked so strangers can't get into your personal information. If it's not on your smartphone, but another device, you can access your documents via personal cloud device or an app that connects your smartphone to your other devices so you can access your music, photos and documents for multiple locations. Again, you just want to make sure this is a private connection so you protect your personal information. So that's our big tip for today. Check out the rest of the series to see other cell uses for your devices. I'm Claudia Boggio, and this is "Outside the Box."
