The field of app development is growing rapidly with no end in sight. That means it’s more important than ever for young minds to have an educational foundation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It’s these STEM skills that empower the bright young minds of today to be the transformative minds for developing the apps of tomorrow.
That’s why Samsung partnered with Scholastic to create the Samsung Mobile App Academy. Currently in its third year, it’s our way of equipping future generations with crucial STEM skills needed to succeed later in life.
Throughout 2015 at six different Samsung Mobile App Academy locations across the country, rising high school juniors and seniors with a pre-existing interest in STEM collaborate as teams to create their own mobile apps. Led by industry professionals, the students learn coding basics and the research, logic, design, and marketing that developers use when conceptualizing and creating mobile apps.
The learning doesn’t stop when the five-day academy comes to a close because the students engage in post-academy sessions led by instructors online to further develop their skills. Not only are their learnings enhanced after the academy, but students will submit their app concept to a panel of judges for a chance to win one of five scholarships.
With the help of the Samsung Mobile App Academy, our goal is to help students move toward a career in STEM. And, we can’t wait to live in a world that they help build.
