A Checklist for Building a Home Theater

Stunning video, rich audio and seamless integration of all your media in one system is something you can tackle yourself with a new home theater. Putting together a home theater system isn't something you want to do every year, so choose components that will satisfy your needs today and in the years to come.

HD for Today and Tomorrow

For the best resolution in a TV, look for an ultra high-definition TV. This has quickly become the new standard, with four times the resolution as full HD TV. Smart TVs with upscaling technology have the ability to upgrade everything you watch to UHD 4K TV so you can watch new programs and your old favorites with UHD-level picture quality.

Maximum Sound for Your Room

A home theater is as much about sound as it is about video. To get true surround sound, your theater needs at least five speakers and a subwoofer, known as a 5.1 system. Three speakers go in the front and two go in the back. If your room isn't big enough for that many speakers, a sound bar is a great compact alternative.

All Your Media in One Player

DVDs had a good run for many years, but for the best picture quality, you'll want a Blu-ray player. Today's Blu-ray players can also play DVDs and CDs, and with its USB port and built-in Wi-Fi®, it can access content on a computer or mobile device.

A universal remote was once mandatory for any comprehensive home theater system. Today, accessing smart content requires a smart solution. From browsing the Internet to searching through video apps, you'll want a Samsung Smart Wireless Keyboard. This is a keyboard and remote control all in one accessory. Hot keys give you one-touch access to multiple Bluetooth devices including the Samsung Smart Hub with S Recommendation.

While shopping for components, keep in mind that you will need to connect them. To connect media players and game consoles to your TV, use HDMI, which transmits digital video and audio in the same cable. For your speaker system, look for wireless systems that save you from running wires around the room.
