7 ways to keep your phone happy

Updated December 31, 9999

Whether it’s daily upkeep or monthly maintenance, these simple tasks can help your phone last longer and perform at its best.

1. Recharge the battery

We recommend recharging your phone’s battery at the end of each day, or before it gets critically low. Waiting until the battery is drained can damage and decrease its efficiency and life span.

2. Close unused apps

It’s common to have several apps open and running simultaneously, without even realizing it. Yet this considerably slows down your phone. To speed things back up, simply close the apps you’re not using.

3. Switch off unused services

Wi-Fi, GPS, mobile data and Bluetooth are all examples of mobile services that largely go unchecked. Forgetting to disconnect from these services can hamper phone performance and also drain the battery. Visit Settings to make these easy adjustments.

4. Restart your phone

It’s important to remember that your smartphone is a mini computer. To perform at its best, it needs to reboot and recalibrate. Press and hold the power button until the power options appear and tap either Power off or Restart.

5. Organize your home screen

A cluttered home screen affects your personal efficiency, phone performance and battery life. Delete any apps or widgets that are no longer useful to you by long pressing the icons and dragging them upwards to the trash can.

6. Update your software

This step is crucial for keeping your phone running smoothly. Go to Settings and System Updates (in some instances, you will need to go to System > About Device) to verify that your phone is running the most up-to-date version. Be sure to update your apps under Phone in Settings, too.

7. Clear your cache

Too much cache can slow down Internet surfing and searches. To get back up to speed, go to Settings > System > Storage > Cached data > Delete/Erase unnecessary files.
