6 Things You Can Do One-Handed (But Not While You're Driving)

Updated April 24, 2015

Some say the tongue is the most powerful muscle in the body, but with an easy-access one-handed operation mode, the Galaxy S®6 and Galaxy S®6 edge bring a new contender to the ring: the thumb. By selecting “One-Handed Operation” from the Settings menu, you instantly give your thumb the power to browse current affairs in Paris, share an HD vacation video or just put the pizza guy on speakerphone before you settle in for the night.

1. Little Gestures, Big Files

The one-handed operation setting dials down everything displayed on your 5.1” Super AMOLED screen to a thumb-friendly size, but that doesn't mean you have to think small when sharing files. Tap "Share," hop over to a contact and hit “OK” to share even the heftiest of media, without taking your free hand off the pup's leash.

2. Living on the Edge

On the Galaxy S6 edge, the screen spills over the side of your smartphone. Even without entering one-handed mode, People Edge—which lines up your most important contacts in a colorful sidebar—gives you immediate access to those you value most. Drag your best friend's icon to the center of the screen, and the edge brings you up to speed on any updates you've missed.

3. The One-Touch Text

As much as our smartphones connect us to a larger world, sometimes date night takes priority. If you've set up the quick reply feature, just place the phone face down and rest one little finger on the heart rate sensor for two seconds when a call interrupts your appetizers—your phone automatically sends your custom away message.

4. Snap Into Snapshots

The best photo ops wait for no one, but you can outpace them with one hand tied behind your back—just press the Home key twice to quick-launch the front-facing camera. Two taps and 0.7 seconds later, you're shooting 16 megapixels of moments that used to be called “fleeting.”

5. Thumbs Up

The updated fingerprint scanner unlocks your screen, lets you pay with PayPal and instantly signs you into your favorite websites, all with the press of a thumb. Now that passwords are a thing of the past, you can use that free brain space for the things that matter (like finally attaining fantasy football league perfection).

6. Supercharge Your Download

Technically, boosting your download speed on the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge is easier than snapping your fingers. Just tap "Apps," then "Settings" and flick the Download Booster on to use both your local Wi-Fi® connection and your mobile network. It works a whole lot better than snapping with one finger.
